Warming Up to LED for the Home
Kichler® Lighting expands its energy-efficient Design Pro LED Modular and Disc 2.0 system of under-cabinet lighting with a choice of two distinct color temperatures: a warm white light (2,700K) and a cooler white light (3,000K), both ideal for kitchens, baths and other areas of the home. With the addition of a warmer, whiter lighting option to the Design Pro LED line, designers can now choose between splashes of soft, warm light or crisp, cooler light for lighting that works in harmony with a room’s overall color palette.
The new 2,700K version of Kichler’s popular Design Pro LED Modular and Disc 2.0 system mirrors the soothing, soft warm glow of everyday incandescent light bulbs. It accentuates warm color palettes such as earth tones, natural-stained wood and wood tones, brushed bronzes and antique brass – color palettes often associated with traditional design. In contrast, Kichler’s original Design Pro LED Modular and Disc 2.0 system offers light measuring around 3,000K on the Kelvin scale, meaning it gives off a crisper white light that is great for universal design and high-contrast design themes. It is also suited for kitchens and living spaces that use materials associated with cooler color palettes, such as lightly-colored stone and tile, aqua mosaic glass tile, black granite, stained concrete and white porcelain.
Kichler’s original Design Pro LED Modular and Disc lighting system was a winner of the 2010 Lighting for Tomorrow Award. The advancement made it easier than ever to add task lighting to create layers of light in the kitchen and elsewhere throughout the home, notes Jeff Dross, Kichler Lighting’s corporate director of education and industry trends.
In addition to task lighting, this system can also be used as a 24/7 night light for aesthetics and as an aid in nighttime navigation due to its low power consumption.
The ultra-sleek profile of the Design Pro LED Modular and Disc 2.0 system allows it to fit comfortably into tight spaces and essentially disappear, leaving only the warm glow of light visible. The modular unit is less than ½-inch thick and comes in four different lengths: 6”, 12”, 18” and 30”. To customize the lighting effect, these fixtures can be used individually, snapped directly together or connected via interconnect cables to evenly deliver light under kitchen cabinets, inside a bookcase or a variety of other areas where powerful task lighting is needed.
Other highlights include a 40,000-hour lifespan, high brightness, even color distribution with no color variation and limited lifetime warranty. The Design Pro LED Modular and Disc 2.0 system is also designer-grade and homeowner-friendly, and offers higher efficiency than traditional Xenon lights.
With the proper accessories, the Design Pro LED Modular 2.0 is compatible with Z-Wave® home automation equipment and offers full dimmable capabilities that allow for premium light level control. When used with the right power supplies and accessories, this under-cabinet lighting system is ENERGY STAR-qualified.
