The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) announces the publication of Design Guide for Sustainable Lighting: An Introduction to the Environmental Impacts of Lighting (DG-22-12). With this new document, the IES addresses the topic of sustainability, an essential environmental, economic and social issue for the first time in this publication. Design Guide DG-22-12 introduces readers to concepts about sustainability in lighting design, which require lighting practitioners to re-evaluate many of their system choices in terms of their potential impact on the environment.
Design Guide DG 22-12 focuses on introducing the topic of sustainability, presents its elements, and explains how it affects the design of lighting in process and product. Topic areas include: lighting quality, optimizing the use of daylight, lighting and health, light pollution, maximizing energy efficiency, ensuring system flexibility, maintainability and durability, providing commissioning, and end of life phase, demolition, disposal and recycling/re-use considerations. Additional resources are provided for more in-depth information.
Design Guide for Sustainable Lighting is available in print or as a PDF download from the IES at www.ies.org/store or click here. Order # DG-22-12. List price; $60.00, IES Member Price: $42.00. ISBN: 978-87995-258-7. Softcover, 8 ½ X 11 format, 48 pages.
