On June 23rd IES Los Angeles and Orange County chapters hosted their annual Lumen West Awards at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. With the theme of Mustachio Bashio the grand ballroom was filled with some very interesting staches. In addition to the annual awards the after party included a palm reader, magician, and cotton candy.

The winner of the IESLA Award of Excellence was Dan Weinreber of Kaplan Gehring McCarroll Architectural Lighting. The award was for his work on the Midtown Manhattan restaurant Le Bernardin. After the five week project none of the original lighting remained. Dan thanked the following for their help with the project: Eric Ripert and Maguy La Coze, Bentel & Bentel Architects, Shawmut Construction, Naber Electric, and American Airlines.

The IES Orange Lumen Award winner was the Student rec center at California State University Northridge by Studio K1. It was Designed by Ray Swartz, Rob Grant, and Russel Cook.

The designers would like to thank: LPA, Inc., Prudential Lighting, Southern California Illumination, Lutron, and SAC Design Photography.

Electrical News enjoyed the evening and reconnecting with some industry professionals as well as meeting some new friends. At cocktail hour we were serenaded by the Harmony Partners.
